AAA Rhodochrosite Heart (cut by me)

I was so excited to cut this. The slab of rhodochrosite I had is incredibly small. Smaller than the palm of my hand. It is also an old stock material, which I procured from a lapidary artist's estate sale. He had drawn 3 extremely small cab outlines in the area I used here. This rhodochrosite is aaa quality and does have some flash in some spots. This material comes from several places, but the best quality stuff comes from Colorado so I am going to guess that is where this is from.

Now, rhodochrosite is a very soft material at a hardness of 3.5-4.5. By comparison, agate is a hardness of 6.5-7. You need to be careful with this as it can actually get scratched. Don't put it in your purse or something like that. I painstakingly cut this stone given its softness, I had to be incredibly careful and go very slowly. This certainly was a labor of love, and I hope someone will cherish it for years to come.
