Mary Ellen Jasper, cut by me

Here we have a cute little mary Ellen jasper piece, which has been cut by me. Mary Ellen jasper is fossilized stromatolite, otherwise known as fossil algae, and is one of the oldest materials in the world estimated at 1.88 billion years old. The swirls and patterns are the fossils left by organisms that came from a world so long ago it is difficult to imagine. The age puts it at the Precambrian period of Earth. That’s a really long time ago! How cool is this little piece?
