Jewelry Care
About my jewelry:
All of my jewelry is handmade. Every pendant will come with a matching chain, by default. I can make them up to 24 inches, so if you have a length preference, let me know before I ship your package. All of my earring hooks are sterling silver plated, unless otherwise noted. All silver chains are stainless steel, and the other colors are plated in different materials such as copper, brass, black enamel, etc. if I hand make my chain, I will put that in the description of the item.
All of my copper items are bare copper unless otherwise stated. They can be oxidized, which is a chemical reaction to darken the metal which then is polished so that the high spots shine.
The black enamel wire is the most fragile of all of the wires. It is easily nicked but it is beautiful. The black enamel chains will wear more quickly than the others.
All bare wire will patina naturally. The bare wire I currently have is cooper and bare brass. I don’t carry sterling silver anymore due to the cost, however I do special order it for customs and once in a while I will have some on hand. I always include a pro polishing pad with any of my bare metal items, including stamped aluminum bracelets, and you may use that to keep your items shining bright. Just discard them when they are fully dirty, don’t get the pads wet. After that, you can use any jewelry polishing pad. Which brings me to the next section:
JEWELRY CARE:
This one is important! Any of my jewelry, really should not be worn in moist conditions. Especially the bare wire pieces. Keep them out of water, such as showers, pools and lakes. Make sure to keep your bare wire pieces clean by using a polishing pad or cloth to keep them shining bright. none of the enameled wire pieces need to be polished and in fact can be damaged by doing so. So make sure what wire your pieces are made from. I normally put this in the description of each piece.
Copper in particular, can react with one’s skin. It is completely normal for copper to leave a black or even green residue depending on your skin’s pH. Or if you sweat, wear perfume or lotion etc. These things can make bare metal jewelry react. Additionally, the weather where you live will affect patina on bare metal jewelry. High humidity will cause patina to happen quickly.
Any stamped metal jewelry, in particular bracelets, or even wire woven bangles, Need to care and attention when putting them on and taking them off. Do not bend them back-and-forth frequently, as these metals are not invincible and eventually they will weekend and break. Size the bracelet to your wrist, leaving about an inch gap. Then, turn the bracelet sideways to the thinnest part of your wrist and pull it out. If you need me to demonstrate this for you, feel free to send me a message!
If you have any other questions about jewelry care, I am happy to answer them for you.
