Biggs Picture Jasper, cut by me

$75.00 USD

I’ve cut some more cabs! This one has been sitting on a dopstick for a while. I finally finished it! This is a nice thick piece of Biggs picture jasper. This material was initially found at Biggs Junction in Oregon, and was first discovered around 1960. It is now found all over the basalt deposits of the American Pacific Northwest. Biggs jasper was formed as mud from volcanic ash was deposited on basalt terrain and subsequently heated and compressed through volcanic activity. Some of this material depending on the color and pattern can fetch hundreds of dollars just for a tiny slab. I once saw an auction with two matching opposing slabs about the size of your palms of the bluish/greyish version go for over $2000! This material is definitely getting harder to find. This is a pretty simple, typical pattern and color, but it is thick and has been priced accordingly.

I chose to wrap this piece in the vintage bronze enamel wire. It will come with a 24 inch copper plated chain.
